The Sirolli Institute, established in 1985, is an institution that teaches government entrepreneurs and city and community leaders HOW TO CAPTURE the PASSION of their cities and communities through the INTELLIGENCE of their residents.

When E.F. Schumacher published "Small Is Beautiful" in 1973, he popularized a subject that a number of thinkers had begun to express in the late sixties. People were troubled by the prevailing idea that "development" had more to do with technology and the generation of wealth than with people and values.

Schumacher made us think: if our technology is built on the destruction of a "sustainable" local culture that has stretched over millennia, how superior is this technology?

The Management Trinity implies that it is impossible for a single individual, alone, to run a business successfully.

Not only would the person need skills in every area — they would also have to be "equally passionate" about all 3 fundamental areas for a business to be successful and sustainable: THE 3 AREAS OF EVERY BUSINESS: 1. Product/Service · 2. Marketing · 3. Financial Management.

Based on empirical evidence, we conclude that the personality suited to successful marketing is substantially different from the personality of the successful financial manager.

One fits the psychological profile of a more extroverted, communicative personality, while the other fits a more introverted, reflective personality.

We are certain that it "is" possible to find an entrepreneur with skill and passion in two of the three areas of activity: production and marketing "or" production and financial management — but we have never found, or heard of, anyone who was equally passionate about marketing and about financial management.
